In short

Car lifts listed by US retailers run $1,095 to $44,795, with a median of $5,145.

Car Lift Outlet tracks 178 models from 10 manufacturers. Every price below is the median of what independent US retailers list for that exact model, not an estimate and not our quote.

  • Cheapest car lift tracked: $1,095 (Tuxedo Distributors SJ-35 3,500 lb Four-post Car Lift)
  • Median across all 178 models: $5,145
  • Most expensive tracked: $44,795
  • Cheapest category: Scissor, median $3,595
  • Most expensive category: Portable, median $11,845

Prices researched September 2026 from published listings on independent US retailers. We are not currently taking orders, so none of these is a quote.

What does a car lift cost by configuration?

ConfigurationModelsLowestMedianHighest
Scissor27$1,895$3,595$21,495
Two-post71$1,695$4,095$12,895
Four-post74$1,095$8,095$35,995
Portable6$5,195$11,845$44,795

Scissor is the cheapest way in at a median of $3,595, and Portable the most expensive at $11,845. The spread inside a single category is wider than the gap between categories, which is why the category alone will not tell you what to budget.

What actually drives the price?

Four things, roughly in order of how much they move the number.

  • Capacity. Steel gauge and structure scale with rating, and this is the single biggest lever on cost.
  • Configuration. A four-post carries more material than a two-post at the same rating, and an alignment or parking variant more again.
  • Certification and documentation. Third-party testing is expensive and it is priced in. It is also the thing an insurer may require.
  • Support and parts availability. A brand with a US parts operation costs more than a container-direct import, and the difference shows up three years later rather than on the invoice.

What is not in the sticker price?

  • Freight. This is a palletised LTL shipment, not a parcel. At a residential address you will almost certainly need a liftgate, and that is a line item people routinely leave out.
  • Electrical. 208-230V single phase is a dedicated circuit, not an existing garage outlet. Budget an electrician unless you already have a supply for a welder or compressor.
  • Concrete. If the slab is thin or an unknown quantity, cutting and pouring a pad to the manufacturer's specification is a contractor's job and is not optional on an anchored lift.
  • Installation. Some models are competent-DIY, some require a trained installer, and the manufacturer's manual decides which.
  • Accessories. Truck adapters, frame cradles and, on a four-post, a bridge jack if you want wheels-off work. Most people buy at least one after delivery.

Budget for the total rather than the ticket. On this category the additional items above are routinely a third again on top of the purchase price, and they are the reason people feel a car lift cost more than they expected.

Is a cheap car lift a false economy?

Not automatically, but the gap between the bottom and the top of this market is real and it is mostly in steel gauge, finish, documentation and support rather than in whether the lift raises a car. What a cheaper lift more often lacks is published specification: a manufacturer that will not tell you the required ceiling height or the concrete specification has made your building your problem. On equipment that holds a vehicle over your head, undocumented is a worse economy than expensive.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 2 post car lift cost?

Two-post car lifts in our research run from the low $1,000s to the high $7,000s, with most 9,000 to 12,000 lb models clustering between $2,000 and $5,000. The table above gives the current median for the models we track. Capacity is the main lever: the same manufacturer's 12,000 lb model typically lists well above its 10,000 lb one.

How much does a 4 post car lift cost?

Four-post car lifts generally cost more than a two-post at the same rating, because the configuration carries more steel. Storage and parking variants sit at the lower end of the four-post range and alignment models at the top. See the table above for the current median across the models we track.

What is the cheapest car lift that is actually usable?

The cheapest genuinely usable lifts are low-rise and mid-rise scissor lifts, which start well below any two-post because they use far less material and need no columns. They will not let you stand underneath a vehicle, which is the trade-off, and for wheels, brakes and detailing they are the sensible budget answer.

Why do car lift prices vary so much for the same capacity?

Price variation at a single capacity comes mostly from steel gauge, certification, finish and parts support rather than from lifting ability. A certified lift with a US parts operation and published installation documentation costs more than a container-direct import of the same rating, and the difference is visible in the paperwork rather than in the specification headline.

How much should I budget in total for a car lift?

Budget the purchase price plus roughly a third again for freight, electrical work and any concrete. On a $3,000 lift that means planning for $4,000 in total, and more if your slab needs a pad cut and poured. The purchase price is the part of this bill that is easiest to research and the smallest surprise.
