The best car lift for a home garage depends on your ceiling height and what you intend to do with the vehicle once it is up. A two-post is the answer for brake, suspension and exhaust work; a four-post for storing a second car or if you would rather not drill into your slab; a scissor if your ceiling is under about 10 feet. The picks above give a model for each of those situations with the rule that selected it.

Is a 2 post or 4 post lift better for a home garage?

Two-post and four-post lifts answer different questions rather than one being better. Two-post leaves the wheels hanging and the underside open, which is what you want for servicing. Four-post is a drive-on runway that needs no anchoring in most configurations, which is what you want for storage and for a slab you are not confident about.

What car lift can I use with a 10 foot ceiling?

A 10 foot ceiling suits most two-post lifts if your vehicle is under about 70 inches tall, and a floor-plate two-post buys back roughly a foot compared with an overhead model. Are cheap car lifts safe?

Price and safety are not the same axis, and the more useful question is what the manufacturer publishes. A lift with a documented concrete specification, a stated ceiling requirement, a proper installation manual and, where it matters to your insurer, an ALI directory entry is a known quantity at any price. A lift with none of those is an unknown at any price.
